The generic substitution system, where pharmacies offer customers the cheapest medicine on the market, is not working optimally due to delivery problems. The TLV proposes an administrative simplification to secure the availability of medicines for pharmacy customers and decrease the risk of problems related to delivery.

Developing the pricing system for pharmaceuticals could save billions
The Swedish Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency, the TLV, is submitting a report to the Government today indicating how the pricing system for medicines can be developed. Billions of crowns can be saved through active cooperation with the pharmaceutical industry.

Glucosamine excluded from the pharmaceutical benefits scheme
The Swedish Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits agency, the TLV, is excluding medicines containing glucosamine from the pharmaceutical benefits system. The cost is too high in relation to the therapeutic benefits gained from the medicines concerned.

The TLV continues developing value-based pricing of pharmaceuticals
Today the TLV, the Swedish Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits agency, presents a report to the Government on the pricing of pharmaceuticals. In this report the TLV finds that the current value-based pricing system needs further development and additional tools. Our objective is to extract as much health as possible for tax funds expended on medicines.

New retail margins for pharmacies apply from the 1st of November 2009
The new retail margin for the sale of prescription drugs will come into force on the 1st of November, 2009 and according to the TLV's estimations has already been successfully financed. In tandem with the introduction of the new retail margin the TLV's monitoring role for generic substitution will commence.
